Wow, huge thanks for all the wonderful nominations of Under the Radar Leaders and Community Connectors! Our inbox was stuffed full of deserving Twin Cities influencers! This volume's feature, Pollen Leaders, profiles all 278 of your nominations.

It's been a historic couple of days for Minnesota with the passage of the marriage equality bill — a time of celebration and pride for many Pollenites! And as always, we've got plenty of events, updates from Pollenites, and jobs for you in this volume.

We'd also like to alert you to an upcoming event that specifically aligns with Pollen and our mission: the Social Enterprise Alliance Summit. This national summit, focusing on "building an economy on purpose," is taking place in Minneapolis from May 19-22, and will be a gathering of more than 700 like-minded people intent on using social enterprise tools to change the world. Registration is open to the public, and Pollenites can get $50 off per ticket for the summit by using the code Pollen50 at checkout. This offer is good through Friday, May 17 at 9am.

The 3^rd call for nominations of “Under the Radar Leaders” and “Community Connectors” has brought in a record number of submissions—278 to be exact!

This awareness initiative brings attention to the amazing visionaries and champions leading our communities day in and day out.

We asked for your nominations in two categories:   

1) Under the Radar Leaders — people making an impact "under the radar" and whose work/efforts/impact should be shared more broadly with our community, starting with the Pollen network. 

2) Community Connectors — people in our community who are getting things done by bringing together ideas, resources, and multiple stakeholders to make things happen.

Pollen members submitted 135 Under the Radar Leaders and 143 Community Connectors. Thank you to all nominators and congratulations to all submitted!

Common Good Breakfast: Breaking the Energy Code

The next Common Good Breakfast will feature a discussion with Dr. Allaei, an entrepreneur and inventor who holds more than 20 U.S. and 15, about how SheerWind is reinventing wind power generation with a new Invelox funnel technology. Event proceeds will be donated to Erik’s Ranch & Retreats.

9th Annual World’s Largest Game of Catch

The Saint Paul Saints and Greater Saint Paul BOMA present their annual World’s Largest Game of Catch from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. The event will also feature $2 lunch items to benefit local charities and the unveiling of the 2013 Saints Pig Mascot.

Who Cares? (Quem Se Importa?) Film Premiere

Intermedia Arts and Ashoka present the regional premiere of Who Cares? (Quem Se Importa?), a documentary by Mara Mourão featuring eighteen social entrepreneurs from around the world showing how everyday people can create global change through innovative enterprise. The event will take place at Intermedia Arts and a dialogue will follow each screening.

The Saint Paul Foundation and Minnesota Idea Open announced the 30 semi-finalist ideas for the Forever Saint Paul Challenge.

Pollenite Mary Warner shares some job searching inspiration: PBS Newshour’s Ask The Headhunter: The Four Best (Not Easiest!) Ways to Land a Job and MinnPost’s "What makes people attached to a city?"

Calls to Action

The Charities Review Council invites all donors or nonprofit professionals to work together to strengthen the way we support the nonprofit sector by participating in a survey that will inform the Standards Review process. To take the survey visit: http://www.smartgivers.org/standardsreview.
